:) Pretty tired, but I'll try a short recap... pardon any run-ons, misplaced commas and apostophes, or things that just plain don't make any sense. :D
Oh my jiggens, getting there an hour early actually paid off. Our spot was fantastic. At the Warfield, there's basically three sections to the floor - the actual dance floor (right in front of the stage), and two sections of floor following it, both about a 5 step stairway raised above the dance floor. We got right at the front of the first raised floor, against the railing. Such. A good. View. And no moshing, which is what really made it great.
The setlist was fantastic. Though... they didn't play Rogues. I'll kill them later, but... Paper Shoes, Pistola, Megalomaniac (encore finisher, epic), Sick Sad Little World, New Skin ACOUSTIC, Pardon Me ACOUSTIC, Summer Romance, A Kiss To Send Us Off, short cover of Linus & Lucy (that song everyone knows from Charlie Brown), a near complete reinterpretation of Redefine with acoustic guitar, and a good amount of others were all performed fantasmically. They played a lot of older stuff, actually. HOLY BUTTER!
I'm feeling like A Kiss To Send Us Off was probably my favorite of the night. I've actually spent whole bart commutes to and from work just listening over and over to the 15ish seconds of rock-out goodness before the last chorus, and to see it performed live was one of the most epic things I think I've ever witnessed. Words fail.
I didn't bring my powershot, but still attempted to take some shorts with my phone. Didn't turn out TOO well. I'll spare posting any videos... can barely make out the songs in them anyways. ;D
Oh! HAHA! I just remembered, someone threw a tight red blouse on stage at Ben, and he got all
excited and said "yay! I have something to wear to the afterparty!...
[reads what's written on it] oh wait. it's for brandon. :/". And already
having taken his shirt(s) off, Brandon puts it on, despite it being about 3 or 4 sizes too small. Pretty retarded in retrospect, but hilarious during the moment, nonetheless. XD
This is the closest any concert has come to topping Jamiroquai. Buuuuuuuut... still didn't, I don't think. Even if we were front and center in front of Brandon.
Still waiting for the act that can top JayKay...
Alright, first off, I have to say that Kid Beyond (the 2nd opener) absolutely BLEW ME AWAY. I would almost go as far as to say he stole the show, but... it was Imogen Heap! Closest an opener has ever been to stealing the show for me, though. And just as Jose Gonzalez had done with Zero 7, Kid Beyond also performed in conjunction with Imogen on a few songs. He put an absolutely amazing punch into the tunes he collaborated on. He even covered a PORTISHEAD song... I mean, c'mon, he couldn't have been any more awesome if he tried. His level of awesomeness had already peaked within the first minute of his opening 'beatbox' session. I really couldn't believe it was all just coming from his mouth... truly amazing.
So, Immi started off with a kind warning - she'd just came down with a cold in the last couple of days, so some notes would be a little more 'interesting' than others... but nobody at all seemed to mind. :) I'm actually amazed she performed so well for how stuffy and sneezy she was between songs! I've also read before that she's had to cancel tour dates due to major colds/sickness, so we were very fortunate for her to have decided to perform. She said she felt sorry for Portland (the stop after SF), as that was probably when the thick of her cold would hit... too bad. =/ But good for us! ;)
Anywho, I'll most definitely be editing this post tomorrow with videos and such. Check back! :D Clips include: half of Kid Beyond's beatbox intro, Headlock, Let Go + Clear The Area, Goodnight And Go, The Walk, Hide And Seek, Daylight Robbery, and my favorite of the night, The Moment I Said It.
Had her voice been 100%, there's no doubt this probably would be close to my favorite concert experience yet... a firm 2nd maybe, behind Jamiroquai, but I think I'll set it somewhere in-between 2nd and 3rd, for now. ;)
I'm not quite sure how to explain it in any sort of words, but tonight was the most 'moving' musical event I've been to thus far in my lifetime. Something tells me I should've been more prepared for such, y'know? Much more planning and preparation needs to go into something like that, I feel. I managed to tear up a bit during Let Go, even. Tears from being overjoyed, of course. :)
OH MY GOD.
This might as well be the first time a video has literally made me gasp with amazement, left me short of breath, and may have bruised my knees, after slamming them straight up against my computer desk, out of sheer amazement. LIVE drum'n'bass. Yes. With a guitarist, drummer, keyboard/synth, bass guitar, etc. A pure DNB and rock music fusion, well crafted, and beautifully presented heavier than anything I can think of. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS.
