New drum'n'bass mix! Done with (Ableton) Live 7, since I picked it up this past week. I'm still puzzled as to why I'd never mixed with it prior (as I've only produced a bit with it before), since it's basically the greatest thing ever. Really versatile, intuitive program.
So this one's a long time coming... I've been mixing a lot lately, though just haven't gotten around to recording anything. There've been tons of new releases since my last mix, including Pendulums (mediocre) new album 'In Silico', Evol Intent's 'Era Of Diversion' LP, as well as various Lifted artist EP's and singles. Tons of great stuff so far in 2008. As the tracklist so blatantly reflects, I'm reeeeaaaally into the new Apex EP that just promo'ed this week. It's being called some of the best dnb of the decade by critics - remarks I can't disagree with. These tunes will be smashers for years to come.

OH MY GOD.
This might as well be the first time a video has literally made me gasp with amazement, left me short of breath, and may have bruised my knees, after slamming them straight up against my computer desk, out of sheer amazement. LIVE drum'n'bass. Yes. With a guitarist, drummer, keyboard/synth, bass guitar, etc. A pure DNB and rock music fusion, well crafted, and beautifully presented heavier than anything I can think of. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS.
While these are only 4 of the 15 or so videos I took, they can sum up the day pretty well (you're lucky I didn't post your raving video, Brian >:P ).
Random panoramic crowd video I took in front of the two main floats, the Skills & Spundae (trance) float, and the Bay Area Drum'n'bass Float. It was actually a lot more crowded at the time I got there, compared to this shot taken around 6ish.
Short vid of Fife spinning on the BADNB float. Fife's probably in my top 3 local dnb dj's, since he spins a lot of pounding jungle/heavy tunes that the big guys tend to lay off of (like Infiltrata, Hochi, Counterstrike, etc.).
The big spectacle of the outside festivities, Above & Beyond spinning on the Skills & Spundae float. They just so happened to be spinning Can't Sleep when I was walking by the back of the float (because like heck I'd be caught dead in the midst of a retarded raver trance crowd). Good timing, guys!
And finally, from the Afterparty itself, a clip of DJ Rap's dnb set. She's an absolutely HORRID dj (I think she mixed properly like... three times?), but can keep a crowd going like nobody's business. Apparently she's been known to go topless during sets. Luckily, this was not the case this time... but did happen to induce some spectator exposure.
Old bag... she really should stick to modelling, or whatever the heck it was she did before she became a 'dj'.
Quite an awesome day. Dieselboy and Aphrodite were absolutely massive. 8)
Man, I can't believe 2006 is already more than half over. When did that happen...? Time moves too weirdly fast... it's hard to believe summer's already almost over.
Gary's party this past weekend was fun times. Jason dropped a hot set... I'd never really seen/heard hardhouse spun in person before, and I was pretty intrigued and into it. I had a good time spinning too. I wasn't really sure what to expect, it being my first time in front of more than 2 people (hahaha), but I just let it go and... it went. Fun times. =p
I dunno what else to post really... so... MEDIA SPAM GOGOGO!
- This one's still unreleased... only out on white labels. You'll recognize it if you were at Gary's party... I dropped it once or twice. I'm softening up to hip-hop more and more nowadays from all of the dnb cross-integration... I still think a lot of it's absolutely retarded, but I'm starting to find a side of it that's appealing. This is probably my top rated dnb remix of any hiphop to date, production-wise; Verse's bassline samples are simplistically unique, and a good refresher after all of the heavy hitters with their overly mutated basses...
- Brand new trance release from Mike Shiver up next. Already being touted as tune of the year 2006, people are obsessing over it, to say the least. It's beautiful, but I won't exactly call it TOTY... it's not exactly... unique. Each outstanding element of the song can be traced back to previous releases within the year. Still an amazing tune, but I'll reserve my TOTY judgment until something comes along and blows me away. (HURRY UP VADIM)
- Here's a gem I completely missed from DistorteD. I guess it's to be expected since I didn't exactly care about DD's music (save for a single-digit amount of songs) until the OST came out. It might as well be my favorite Mr.T song to date; he basically combined the DLO style with electroshock to produce some sort of belligerently infectious sound... I wonder if there's a full production on some album or something somewhere. It desperately needs one...
And I end this post with another video from that one-day Six Flags Magic Mountain trip a couple of weeks ago: a full on-board video of Goliath. SOOOOOO GOOD. That first drop... amazing... hahaha, I put the camera down for a second during the second drop so the on-ride photo picture didn't show up with me shoving my own camera in it's face, possibly getting me kicked out of the park. ;D ENJOY!
What's your cell phone's ringtone? What made you pick it?
Well, my second post on vox was testing out the music uploading business... with my ringtone!
I have a bunch I use for different contacts/different situations. My alarm is Pendulum - Slam (starting at the "Is this bass really strong enough?" part) f'shooooooo. Other contacts are Klute - Come Back To Me, Kryptic Minds & Leon Switch - More Like You (Unknown Error Remix), and Shy FX & T Power - Don't Rush.
dnb = best ringtone music ever
So, one of my co-workers (Mike Ngo) really, really hates this one pretty old R&B song, 'Return Of The Mack' by Mark Morrison. We tease him daily with it in any way we can, whether it be just playing the song near him, luring him into a Mark Morrison photoshop, or anything else you can think of. It's all in good fun, but... he takes it WAY too far sometimes. Like, to the point of leaving work early, without his carpool, saying "I'LL JUST WALK HOME OR SOMETHING" (20 miles).
It's funny, trust me. We only do it because he still hasn't given us a good reason as to why he despises it.
So, in our quest to find out by egging him on more and more, here's my latest creation.
It's a mashup of Pendulum's 'Slam' and an acapella track of Mark Morrison's 'Return Of The Mack'. I spent a 15 minute break at work making it. We've yet to pull it on him though, since really, it just might break him. A song he enjoys, coupled with the song that crushes his soul.
Hilarity ensues!
