New drum'n'bass mix! Done with (Ableton) Live 7, since I picked it up this past week. I'm still puzzled as to why I'd never mixed with it prior (as I've only produced a bit with it before), since it's basically the greatest thing ever. Really versatile, intuitive program.
So this one's a long time coming... I've been mixing a lot lately, though just haven't gotten around to recording anything. There've been tons of new releases since my last mix, including Pendulums (mediocre) new album 'In Silico', Evol Intent's 'Era Of Diversion' LP, as well as various Lifted artist EP's and singles. Tons of great stuff so far in 2008. As the tracklist so blatantly reflects, I'm reeeeaaaally into the new Apex EP that just promo'ed this week. It's being called some of the best dnb of the decade by critics - remarks I can't disagree with. These tunes will be smashers for years to come.

somewhat of a Shiver overload in the beginning, but he really is the producer of the moment in trance. for me, at least. profound sound. =p and that somnambulist remix is actually brand new -- recently released just this month. too good to pass up.
going back and listening to my first few trance mixes, and now listening to this one... amazing. can't believe how much I've progressed (and how I thought I was actually decent back then). beatmatching, overlaps, EQing, track flow selection... everything improving. good times. =p
New drum'n'bass mix cause I got booooooooooooooooooored.

Spor is a genius. Knock You Down and Molehill are hands down, my top two tunes atm... and hooha, I was trying to find somewhere to fit Trim as a tweener somewhere, but by pure accident, I left it playing over Molehill once and was befuddled by how well they meshed together. so I just teased it where I saw it fit best. Oh yeah! Spor's currently working on a remix of an older Pendulum tune, Toxic Shock, which should be released later this year. He'll become the second artist ever (behind noisia and their painkiller remix) to be granted the (honor?) permission to do an official remix of one of Pendulum's tunes, because sweet fancy moses they're anal about it.
Speaking of, Noisia are becoming even more exquisitely refined these days. It's hard to imagine anyone else pulling off a freakin drum'n'bass remake of a tune the likes of Sweet Dreams, as well as such an immensely heavy remix of Painkiller. Blindingly bright futures those dudes have...
Oh, and I feel really retarded cause I didn't know Just A Ride was the OC theme until right after I finished the mix. Feh. Why do retardedly crappy preppy stupid primetime TV shows have to destroy decent music with their themes... I must forsake them at all costs. ...from... now on. (cause man that remix is baaaaaaangin)
Haven't posted any mixes in a while... figured I was past overdue for sharing something (along with being requested to do so by devdev), so I sat down and made a fresh one last night. I took a go at trance (since my last public set was dnb) this time. So as I usually do when going about making a new mix, I went looking through my new singles, picking and choosing what would sound good together... but noticed there haven't been too many notable releases in... well, uhh, let's just say 2006 hasn't been too memorable thus far. ;D
So!
I took a look through my old collection of singles. I hadn't listened to most of them in over a year, some even longer... it was overwhelming, to say the least. Like digging through old family photos, remembering good times, all that nostalgia and feel-good-ness about. I realized I've got a huge amount of memories pinned to a ton of different tunes...
So, I present a mix baring my own sentiments. Every song in this one takes me back through the years, and each and every one I'll probably remember for the rest of my life. Now, I can't say that these are ALL of the ones I've got memories of (since that mix would probably be a couple of days long), but there's a good combination of styles, and most of them reflect pretty major events/turning points in the years past.
It's... one from the heart, or something like that. PARDON THE CHEESINESS, my brain is requiring at least a 3 hour nap to even fathom formulating any sort of eloquence here...

(I wish I had a better quality rip of Starburst... the mix is sketchy, but given the circumstances, I'm dumbfounded as to how it came out as good as it did D: )
So, there ya go. Enjoy and stuff! It's quite soothing...
While I am indeed a full-fledged drum'n'bass head, my true electronic dance music roots stem from trance. Since age 12, I've been engrossed in it, through all of its forms at the time and thereafter. The genre's always something I've fallen back on, no matter what mood I'm in, no matter what other genre-of-the-moment is consuming me, no matter anything. Like your favorite flavor of ice cream. Might be made by different brands from time to time, but that one flavor will always be there to fall back on when you're craving it.
Recently, within the past year, I've taken my music electronic music hobby to new levels by diving into the world of mixing and dj'ing, mainly the result of years of toying around with rudamentary pc audio programs and strengthening my internal metronome with music videogaming. After months of garnishing my skills with Traktor DJ Studio (2) for my pc, It wasn't long before I picked up a couple of Technic turntables and a mixer to really get the hobby in full swing.
7 months and a few stacks of vinyl later, I've started to feel comfortable with my abilities. New ideas and techniques are coming from all directions, and the number of digital mixes keeps on growing. I've still got more to learn than I'd like to think about, but the feeling hasn't stopped fascinating me every single time I hit the decks.
So to finally hit the point of this post, I bare my newest mix. I first posted it up on LiveJournal last week. It's my first trance mix in a while, after quite a few drum'n'bass outings in the recent past. If you've never given trance a good listening ear, you may want to give a listen to this set. While it does somewhat deviate from the genre (a short breaks run from tracks 6-7), the tunes are sure to please. Tracklist is as follows:
01. Mike Foyle - Shipwrecked (Armin van Buuren's Intro Edit)
02. Robert Nickson feat. Elsa Hill - Close Your Eyes (Vadim Zhukov Remix)
03. Imogen Heap - The Moment I Said It (Airbase Unreleased Remix)
04. Mike Foyle vs. Signalrunners - Love Theme Dusk (Mike's Gladiator Remix)
05. The Freak - Rising Angel (Katana Remix)
06. DJ Icey vs. Marlon - One Foot Skank (Autobots Remix)
07. Alter Ego - Rocker (Christian J. Remix)
08. Vadim Zhukov - Evolution
09. Double V - Moscow Morning (Vadim's New Year Remix)
→ MP3 download via rapidshare. If you're so inclined, I've also made a rough cuesheet for the set you can download here.
There'll be many more to come... I'm actually in the middle of a new drum'n'bass mix as I type this, so that should be coming up shortly. Any comments or feedback is always appreciated, as I still consider myself a novice always looking for ways to improve and expand. =p
